Jefferson Street Apartments
Located on the west side of downtown Vancouver, Jefferson Street Apartments draws inspiration from the adjacent railroad tracks, using elements like corrugated and smooth metal panels that mimic a traditional boxcar. The project consists of a 4-level building that runs parallel to Jefferson Street on the southwest side of the site.
The owner’s overarching goal was to provide stylish and accessible housing options for residents who want to be near the city’s core. A percentage of the units were reserved as affordable housing, per an agreement made between the owner and the City of Vancouver.
Given its proximity to the passing trains, a key challenge with Jefferson was managing the acoustics inside the building. The noise overlays that were implemented give the apartment control over the external sounds, allowing residents to be both a part of the action outside as well as retreating to their own quiet space when desired.
