Design CoMission kicks off on Monday September 28, and we couldn’t be more excited. Against the backdrop of a turbulent year, this semester’s remote session will be packed with opportunities to consider why and how design can shape the world in a positive way. We’re ready to make the experience fun, provide an array of support through the process, and learn together.

Design CoMission Kicks Off 2020 Fall Semester Remote Session
September 25, 2020 by LSW Admin
For anyone new to the concept, Design CoMission is LSW’s bi-annual internship program for aspiring designers and design-minded students from high-schools around SW Washington. With guidance and input from architects and professionals, the program gives students a platform to develop their ideas, hone their skills, and channel this into design solutions for our community. It is our hope that the experience helps students identify their strengths and provides a springboard to career possibilities in the design field.
Originally started in 2014, the program has earned a special place in the hearts of our team. It’s a chance for us to practice mentorship and connect with students from the school districts that we love and serve. Every semester, we’re dazzled by the ideas and fresh perspective that students bring to the table.
Typically, the program is hosted at our office and in our community spaces. Things will look and function a little differently this semester, given the need to practice social distancing, but we’ll focus on creative ways to make this a part of the experience. Design CoMission still meets two afternoons a week for two hours over the course of each semester, equally around 90 hours. Participating students can receive 0.5 credit hours toward completion of their high school diploma if the 90-hour requirement has been met and have the option to transfer that credit to 4 credits at Clark College.
