Stannard Technical Education Building

  • LOCATION: Spokane, WA

OVERVIEW

In 2006, the Community Colleges of Spokane retained LSW to assist Spokane Community College in the preparation of a pre-design study for the proposed 70,000 sq ft, $32.8 million technical education building. LSW completed a detailed analysis of the project, program, site, and budget with input from college stakeholders, local manufacturing employers, and community members.

The goal of the building was to provide space for technical education programs.  Community and local business input was vital in deciding what programs were most needed and the kinds of  spaces needed to house them.  Ultimately, the facility was designed to accommodate Welding Technology, Hydraulic and Pneumatic Automation Technology, Electrical Maintenance, Machining, and HVAC/Refrigeration.  Combining these programs into one facility resulted in greater efficiency and provided opportunities for collaboration amongst the groups.

For the design phase, LSW teamed with Integrus Architecture to design a facility that would support the College’s goals.  This was accomplished through a facility designed to function as a learning and teaching tool.  Exposed mechanical systems and oversized mechanical rooms allow students to observe and monitor energy savings and consumption in the LEED™ Gold Certified building. Additionally, space was provided for industry partners, enhancing the connection between the learning and working environment.
