Jefferson Street Apartments

  • LOCATION: Vancouver, WA
  • COMPLETED: On the Boards

OVERVIEW

Located on the west side of downtown Vancouver, Washington, the design of the Jefferson Street Apartments draws inspiration from railroad tracks that are adjacent to the site.  The buildings reflect the design of the railroad cars to provide a fun, edgy housing option, that is also affordable and fills a much-needed gap in the downtown core. The residents of the Jefferson Street Apartments are within walking distance to restaurants, shops, cafés, and offices as well as the emerging waterfront development, which is currently under construction.

The Jefferson Street Apartments consist of two, four-level buildings that run parallel to the property lines on the north and the southwest sides of the site. An enclosed bridge connects the buildings on levels 2 through 4. Comprised of 82,700 sq ft, the buildings provide 92 below market-rate apartments. Support spaces for residents and management are located on the ground level along with a community room that opens onto a plaza with planters and benches, providing an exterior central gathering space for residents.

The buildings are clad in metal paneling, using corrugated metal panels in a dark field color accented by pops of color on smooth metal panels. The community room is depicted as a boxcar sliding under the north building and is clad in corrugated metal panels with large letters branding the complex.
