Clark College at Columbia Tech Center

  • LOCATION: Vancouver, WA
  • COMPLETED: 2009

OVERVIEW

LSW completed both the pre-design study and design of Clark College at Columbia Tech Center. Its prime location is near the high-tech hub of the county, within short distances to several neighboring high schools. The 70,000 sq. ft. building boasts classrooms, specialized science labs, computer-based instruction, offices, study space, and a community/business training center.

Consistent with the master plan for serving its fast-growing district, Clark College offers a full array of programs at the East Vancouver satellite campus. Additionally, the College wanted to foster relationships with local business and industry partners. The building provides an avenue for Clark College to achieve this by providing space for the college to work directly with the community to identify and meet specific training needs.

As a satellite campus, it was important that the building exterior remain consistent to the Clark College standards; brick, precast concrete, and aluminum composite panels contribute to its sense of identity. In keeping with the College’s sustainability goals, the building is LEED™ Gold Certified. Wind turbines and photovoltaic cells on the roof allow students to monitor the building’s energy consumption and learn about alternative energy sources.
